Director of Residences | California and Multi-State Portfolio

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Residences to oversee a portfolio of private homes for an ultra-high-net-worth principal and family. This newly created position offers the opportunity to shape estate operations, lead established household teams, and oversee significant construction and renovation projects.

The principal spends much of their time in Lake Tahoe and the Bay Area. The portfolio also includes homes in Southern California and Florida. Tahoe is the preferred base, but candidates based elsewhere will be considered. Relocation support is available.

The role

The Director will divide their time between two equally important priorities: capital projects and estate operations.

On the project side, they will oversee construction, renovations, design work, landscaping, budgets, vendors, and timelines. They will coordinate multiple designers, contractors, and other specialists, bringing structure and financial oversight to complex projects.

On the operations side, they will lead house managers across the portfolio and ensure every residence is consistently prepared for the family and their guests. They will establish practical systems and standard operating procedures while respecting the distinct needs of each home and the experience of long-standing team members.

The Director will work closely with the principal and senior family office leadership.

Success in this role requires excellent judgment: knowing what to resolve independently, when to seek input, and how to communicate clearly without adding unnecessary demands on the principal’s time.

What we are looking for

• Senior experience overseeing multiple private residences, with estate operations as a central focus of your career
• A strong record of managing construction, renovations, capital projects, substantial budgets, and external vendors
• Experience leading house managers and building productive relationships with established household teams
• A genuine understanding of hospitality and the standards expected in a private home; earlier luxury hospitality or yacht experience would be welcome
• The ability to introduce consistent systems without imposing a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach
• Financial discipline, sound judgment, discretion, and a calm, collaborative leadership style
• The confidence to manage competing priorities and differing views while remaining focused on practical solutions
• Flexibility to travel between residences as the role requires

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable discussing a construction budget, supporting a house manager, and assessing whether a residence is ready to welcome the family. They are proactive, emotionally intelligent, and able to build trust across a complex private organization.

The package includes a base salary of approximately $300,000, a target 20% bonus, medical benefits, a 401(k) match, and additional benefits and long-term incentives. Full details will be discussed with qualified candidates.
