Overview:
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced and grounded House Manager to join a large, high-end private estate in Wiltshire. This is a management-led role with occasional butler and hospitality duties when the Principal, their family, or guests are in residence.
The focus is on ensuring the seamless daily operation of the main house, supervising a team of five housekeepers and maintaining the highest standards of presentation, service readiness, and staff coordination. When the family or guests are visiting (mainly weekends and holidays), the role shifts to include hands-on butlering and front-of-house hospitality — supporting a warm, relaxed, but polished environment.
This position requires someone proactive, composed, and detail-oriented, with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a broader estate team. Longevity, discretion, and leadership are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Core House Management Duties (majority of the role):
- Lead and supervise a team of five housekeepers, maintaining day-to-day operations
- Conduct regular inspections and uphold five-star presentation standards throughout the home
- Manage domestic schedules, supplies, inventories, and liaise with tradespeople as needed
- Support estate-wide preparations and operations during seasonal events (e.g. shoot season)
- Coordinate with the Estate Manager and visiting professionals to ensure efficiency
- Be a consistent, respected point of authority within the household team
Occasional Butler & Hospitality Duties (when Principals/guests are in residence):
- Provide informal and formal service, occasionally hands-on
- Host guests and ensure their comfort and needs are anticipated
- Oversee service delivery from chefs and other temporary staff during peak periods
- Create a welcoming, discreet, and homely atmosphere
Candidate Requirements:
- Demonstrable experience in high-level private households, estates, or luxury hospitality
- Proven longevity in previous roles (no short-term placements)
- Strong team management skills with the ability to lead with authority and fairness
- Excellent eye for detail and service-led mindset
- Able to transition smoothly between operational leadership and hands-on service
- Professional and polished but personable and down-to-earth
- Preferably male (due to internal team dynamics with the Head Housekeeper)
- UK work eligibility required
Package & Benefits:
- Salary: £60,000 per annum
- Accommodation: Provided on site (private), with all bills included
- Time Off: Flexible; if working a weekend day, time off during the week is offered
- Interview Process: Initial Zoom introduction, followed by in-person interviews
This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable, calm, and detail-driven House Manager who thrives in a structured but welcoming estate environment, and who understands how to deliver excellence behind the scenes — with a hospitable flair when it counts.
