House Manager – Prestigious Private Residence
Central London | £100,000–£120,000 DOE
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced House Manager to take responsibility for the smooth running of a substantial and historically significant private residence in Central London.
This is a senior leadership position overseeing an established household team of approximately 20 staff, reporting directly to a highly exacting Principal and taking ownership of the standards, structure and day-to-day operation of the residence.
We are looking for someone with genuine presence: calm, resilient, highly organised and completely unflappable. The successful candidate will be capable of leading a large team with quiet authority, creating structure and accountability without unnecessary drama, and maintaining exceptionally high standards even when priorities change at short notice.
A background within a large private household, significant estate, senior military environment, luxury hospitality or another highly disciplined service setting could work particularly well.
The Role
You will have overall responsibility for the household and its personnel, ensuring the residence operates seamlessly and consistently to the Principal’s expectations.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leadership and management of approximately 20 household staff
- Creating clear structures, responsibilities, standards and accountability across the team
- Recruitment, onboarding, training, development and performance management
- Maintaining exceptionally high standards of presentation, service and household operation
- Managing staff schedules, rotas and departmental priorities
- Overseeing household budgets, expenditure and reporting
- Managing contractors, suppliers and specialist service providers
- Ensuring maintenance, security, health & safety and household systems are appropriately managed
- Developing and maintaining household procedures and SOPs
- Coordinating events, guests and periods of increased household activity
- Acting as the principal point of communication between the household team and Principal
- Anticipating issues and resolving them calmly before they escalate
The Person
This environment requires someone with considerable resilience and emotional maturity.
The Principal has exceptionally high standards, and the successful House Manager will need the confidence and experience to operate effectively within a demanding household while remaining composed, diplomatic and professional at all times.
We are particularly interested in someone who leads in a calm, structured and gently disciplined manner — setting clear expectations, following through consistently and earning the respect of the team without needing to dominate it.
You will ideally be:
- An experienced House Manager or senior private household professional
- Proven in managing a sizeable multidisciplinary team
- Exceptionally calm under pressure
- Resilient and emotionally intelligent
- Comfortable working directly with a demanding UHNW Principal
- Highly organised, methodical and solutions-focused
- Discreet, diplomatic and able to exercise sound judgement
- Confident addressing performance issues where necessary
- Hands-on enough to understand what is happening throughout the property
- Able to maintain perspective and professionalism in a fast-moving environment
- Flexible around the requirements of a private household
Experience within a significant private residence, large estate, senior military environment or world-class luxury hospitality operation would be particularly relevant.
