We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Ranch Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and ongoing development of a beautiful 100+-acre private ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable, self-motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining a property to exceptional standards, and has the practical skills required to manage a substantial rural estate.

The ranch is expected to introduce horses and cattle in the future, so experience with livestock, equestrian facilities, and pasture management would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations, upkeep, and general maintenance of the  ranch.
  • Manage land, pastures, fencing, gates, roads, trails, and ranch infrastructure.
  • Maintain ranch equipment, machinery, vehicles, and tools, coordinating servicing and repairs as required.
  • Monitor irrigation systems, water supplies, drainage, and general land conditions.
  • Carry out hands-on repairs, preventative maintenance, and general ranch improvements.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors, vendors, and specialist trades.
  • Identify maintenance requirements and proactively address issues across the property.
  • Support the future development of facilities and infrastructure for horses and cattle.
  • Assist with livestock care and management as animals are introduced to the ranch.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, organized, and well-presented property at all times.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience managing a private ranch, large rural estate, or agricultural property.
  • Strong practical knowledge of land management, property maintenance, and ranch operations.
  • Experience operating and maintaining tractors, ranch machinery, and agricultural equipment.
  • Good understanding of irrigation, fencing, water systems, and general infrastructure.
  • Experience with horses, cattle, and livestock management is highly desirable.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to undertake practical repairs.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Reliable, discreet, trustworthy, and comfortable working independently.
  • Willingness to reside on the property full-time.
  • Valid driver's license and legal authorization to work in the United States.

The Opportunity

This is a long-term, live-in position offering the opportunity to take ownership of a substantial private ranch in one of California's most beautiful rural locations.

The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining and developing the property, including supporting its future evolution into a working ranch with horses and cattle.
