Type: Full-time, with regular international travel required

Role Overview

This position provides technical support to a managed fleet of yachts. The Technical Manager is responsible for building strong working relationships with Owners, Captains, and Chief Engineers, resolving technical issues, ensuring safety at sea, and maintaining vessel integrity.

The role includes day-to-day technical guidance, conducting inspections, supporting warranty services, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Regular international travel may be required, occasionally on short notice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong relationships with Captains, Chief Engineers, crew, and owners.

  • Manage technical compliance issues in line with internal Safety Management Systems (SMS).

  • Provide proactive technical support across the managed fleet.

  • Assist with fault resolution, emergency support, and spare part procurement.

  • Support implementation or review of onboard Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).

  • Collaborate with Yacht Managers, Accountants, and Designated Persons Ashore (DPAs).

  • Oversee yacht compliance through review of reports, defect logs, and critical systems.

  • Conduct annual technical inspections, including use of software tools such as MMV and Safety Culture.

  • Stay updated on and advise regarding regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in the company’s emergency response protocols and drills.

  • Assist with reviewing and managing operational budgets.

  • Liaise with classification societies, flag states, shipyards, and insurers.

  • Provide warranty management services for newly managed yachts.

  • Develop and manage refit specifications and tender processes.

  • Oversee refit projects either onsite or remotely, depending on scale and scope.

  • Monitor refit budgets and timelines, attending planning and progress meetings as required.


Commercial Focus

  • Identify refit opportunities and areas for expanded management services.

  • Recognise and propose new business opportunities within the existing fleet.

  • Contribute to onboarding proposals for potential new clients or vessels.

  • Ensure accurate accounting of all services rendered.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience as a Chief Engineer (commercial or yachting - Y1) or 2nd Engineer; OR
    Experience as Technical Superintendent, Naval Architect, Class Surveyor, or Refit Project Manager.

  • Solid understanding of maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, IACS, SSC, REG Code, Flag protocols).

  • Strong background in project, refit, or new build management.

  • Prior experience in the yacht industry is preferred.

  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with MMV or similar PMS/yacht management software preferred.

  • Effective mediator with strong multitasking abilities.
